Breathwork in Wokingham, Berkshire
Trauma is not just held in the mind but it is also stored in the body. Unlike traditional talk therapies, breathwork focuses on reconnecting you with your body to release trauma. Somatic practices such as breathwork help release emotions and create emotional resilience.
The practice of breathwork can be traced back thousands of years. It has origins in Eastern practices such as Hinduism, Taoism and Buddhism. It also has roots in South American, African and Australian practices.
Breathwork is an umbrella term for bringing focus to your breath. You breathe in rhythmic patterns for certain periods of time. Sometimes, breathwork is set to music. It can be a gentle inhale and exhale in and out through your nose. Or more active breathing in and out through your mouth. I can facilitate both types of breathing tailoring it to a person's specific needs.
What does breathwork treat?
A one-to-one session is designed to help relieve symptoms of anxiety, stress and overwhelm. By the end of the session, you’ll feel centred, blissful and happy. You will have increased self-worth, self-love and self-trust. You’ll learn to understand yourself and others whilst creating a deeper sense of self-forgiveness. You’ll connect with your gut instinct/intuition making it easier to make decisions. You’ll notice you sleep deeper the day or a few days after your journey. Most importantly you’ll feel reconnected with yourself and your body.
During a one-to-one session, you will physically be aiding your body as well as your mind. You will be relieving symptoms of chronic pain. You will be regulating your nervous system. This means you will be creating a higher tolerance to stress whilst your body learns how to enter into a rested state. You will be aiding digestion and easing symptoms of acid reflux and heartburn. You will be helping your body to balance its pH Levels. You will naturally learn how to breathe in a more regulated way.
What happens during a session?
Before your journey, you’ll fill in a form answering questions about what areas of your life you feel you need help in the most. Katie will then create a theme for your one-to-one breathwork journey. At the beginning of your session, we'll talk about the theme in relation to your life. This talk will be guided either through the use of journal prompts or oracle cards. We'll then discuss the breathing techniques you'll be using, and what might happen during your breathwork journey. You'll enter into the breathwork journey for 25 minutes where you'll breathe rhythmically to music for 25 minutes. After the breathing, you have a choice between a 20-minute guided meditation or chakra balancing reiki treatment. At the end, you'll have an opportunity to discuss anything that came up for you during your journey.
